How to save a life: winter self-care edition

Posted by Kayce Sebree on

We know what you’re thinking. Is the title a little overdramatic? Should we chill out (Yes, that was an intentional bad pun)? To these completely reasonable questions: Yes! Absolutely! Unfortunately, wind tunnel season is upon us in NYC (if you know, you know); and oversized scarves, earlier sunsets, and complaints about the cold have slowly snuck up on us. Our concerns of humidity and heat have been replaced by frantic attempts to save ourselves from the dropping temperatures and biting wind chill. It’s enough to make someone want to stay inside forever. To the slip dresses and high-waisted shorts of summer, we say move over. Puffer coats and fuzzy socks are here to stay.

At the Verb office, we’re prepping for a happy, healthy and hydrated winter in the best way we know how. It involves some changes in our haircare (well, obvi), skincare, and self-care habits. And ngl, we’re pretty excited to switch it up.

Check out a few of our tried-and-true ways to prep for the winter season--->

Verb Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner

Hydration is the name of the game here. We know we’re probably a bit biased, but if we could write a love letter to our hydrating collection - we would. Moisturizing, gentle and seriously lovely all around, our Hydrating Shampoo and Hydrating Conditioner are great for maintaining soft and silky hair.

A sad and true anecdote (with a happy ending): Once upon a time, the writer of this post spontaneously decided to go get her hair dyed at a salon and walked out with a burning, flaking scalp. Fast forward a few months later, a few very rough months of lowkey walking around with straw for hair, she picked up the Verb Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner on a whim. She started using it, and to her delight (and probably to the delight of her friends who had to listen to her complain about her hair), it worked! And as they say, the rest is history.

La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm AP+

This is actually the stuff of parched-skin dreams. When your summer moisturizer is no longer cutting it, this balm babies and protects your skin. And the texture of the balm is really soothing and comforting; which is especially nice when you’re suffering from chapped cheeks, a chapped nose...a chapped everywhere on our faces if we’re being honest (pls don’t judge).

Verb Hydrating Mask

Hair needs a pick-me-up? Your formerly hydrated tresses feeling a little down? The winter chill and the dry air are the worst enemy of soft and silky strands everywhere. We like to let our hydrating mask do its thing once a week (or more as needed) and help, well, beat back the winter dryness.

L’occitane Hand Cream

Kiehl’s Cilantro + Orange Pollutant Defending Mask

We love a good overnight mask, and a thin layer of this helps keep the moisture in overnight and leaves you with bright, happy skin after you wash your face the next morning.

Finally...Get Outside

This last one might seem counterintuitive. And really, we promise we like the comforts of a warm apartment as much as anyone else. But we’ve also found that it’s pretty nice to get outside every once in a while! It’s refreshing and really helps with those winter blues.
