What is moringa oil?

Moringa oil is derived from the seeds of the moringa oleifera tree native to India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The tree is also known as the drumstick tree or the "Miracle Tree" because its leaves and seeds contain more than 90 nutrients and 46 antioxidants that can boost health. Moringa oil is made through a cold-pressing process that extracts the oil from the seeds of the tree. Cold pressing is essential to get the true benefits of moringa oil because it helps retain nutrients that would otherwise be lost from heat extraction.

When moringa oil is properly extracted, it contains vitamin C, vitamin B and different types of monounsaturated fats that promote smooth, shiny and healthy hair.

Benefits of moringa oil for hair

The nourishing vitamins, antioxidants and many nutrients in moringa oil can do a lot for your hair:

1. Strengthens

Keratin protein is the primary element of hair, comprising 95% of each strand. As you age, keratin production declines which reduces the strength of your hair leading to dryness, breakage, thinning and hair loss. Moringa oil is packed with zinc, which helps boost keratin production to make up for the deficiency as you get older. Additionally, the proteins in moringa oil also help to protect hair from potential damaging factors such as heat and the environment.

2. Improves shine and softness

Another benefit of moringa oil is its rich supply of fatty acids, such as behenic acid, that can increase the shine and softness of your hair. While nourishing strands, the fatty acids also form a protective barrier to repel moisture which can help reduce frizz and protect against other environmental hazards.

3. Adds moisture

Moringa oil is loved for its ability to deliver moisture straight to the scalp, to prevent dryness and deeply nourish hair from the source. While many oils have a tendency to stick around on the surface of your scalp, moringa oil is absorbed quickly as a result of being so light.

4. Helps mend split ends

Split ends occur from broken amino acid chains in your hair. Normally, amino acids are held together by bonds, which help your hair stay strong and healthy. But heat, chemical treatments, weather and rough handling can break the bonds. As the bonds break, strands become weaker and split ends occur. While you can’t permanently repair split ends, replenishing amino acids can help mend the bonds. Moringa oil is packed with amino acids that can help to mend broken bonds in weak or damaged strands. It helps repair damaged strands while promoting the health of new hair. For example, our Moringa + Jojoba Treatment Oil mends split ends by 64% and reduces breakage by 73%.*

For an even more powerful way to re-link broken bonds, our new Bonding Collection temporarily seals split ends and strengthens strands.

5. Lightweight

Unlike heavier ingredients like castor oil, moringa oil is notably lightweight. This means your hair can enjoy the benefits of hydration without feeling weighed down, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer non-intrusive, lighter hair care products. Additionally, moringa oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog your hair follicles or lead to issues like breakouts.

6. Hydrates your scalp

A well-nourished scalp is crucial for maintaining the overall health of your hair, and moringa oil is known for its ability to soothe and hydrate your scalp. First, it balances hydration effectively, ensuring that your scalp receives the moisture it needs without overloading it with excess oils. Moringa oil's anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties also make it a dependable solution for reducing scalp irritation, providing relief from discomfort often caused by dryness, itchiness, or redness.
